"So this is the past, huh?" Yuri looked around as she and Kaitou entered the Botanical Garden. Aside from some different flowers in different places, it looked the same as it always did, down to Coupe sitting in his usual spot.

"Yeah, that's right. This is The World Without Riders, around 2008."

"2008... This place really hasn't changed over the years. It's kind of sur-"

"Moonlight!" Before Yuri could finish her sentence, something small flew at her and latched onto her shoulder. "You're late."

"...real..." Yuri was almost frozen, staring in shock at the white and purple creature, who looked an awful lot like Tsubomi and Erika's fairies. There were a few seconds of silence, as the fairy looked up at her. He only seemed to really see her now. "...Cologne..."

"You're not Moonlight..." He flew off of and went to float in front of Yuri, looking confused. "You look just like her, but... You're older. What's going on here?"

"Ah... That's, um..."

"Oh no, this is your Yuri. Just from the future. We got a ride to here so she could talk to you."

"From the future?" Cologne turned to Yuri for confirmation. She nodded.

"I'll just go over there so you two can have your talk." And with that, Kaitou left the two alone. Yuri had taken to looking at the ground instead of at Cologne.

"So you're Cure Moonlight from the future?" Cologne floated closer to her and looked her up and down. "You really are. I'd recognize you anywhere. But why travel to the past just to talk to me?"

"I... I just wanted to..." Yuri was stammering nervously, very unlike herself. "I'm sorry..."

"What for?" It was about at that point that Yuri grabbed Cologne into a tight hug and fell to her knees holding him. Tears were flowing nonstop from her eyes. "Moonlight?"

"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry!" While confused, Cologne did his best to smile reassuringly.

"Jeez... You're such a crybaby." Yuri didn't say anything, she just continued sobbing. "Ah, seriously... I don't know what you'd do without me."

"...Yeah." It was just one word, quiet and shaky, but it said a lot. The implication was clear enough and both parties went silent.

"...oh. That's why you had to travel to the past." Yuri released the fairy slightly and he looked up in concern. "What happened?"

"It was my fault." Yuri paused, removing her glasses briefly to wipe her tears away with her sleeve and stood up again. "We went to the Precure Palace together, but when we got there, Dark Precure was waiting for me. We fought and... I thought... I thought I could take her. Then Sabaku showed up and I got distracted. I let my guard down and she took advantage of that.

Sabaku, he was about to finish me off, but..."

"I saved you." Cologne smiled. "I wouldn't do anything else. But Moonlight, that's not your fault. I chose to do that. And I will choose to do that in the future too."

"You shouldn't have had to! I was being an idiot... I had the opportunity to search for new Precure, but I didn't. I thought I didn't need to, that I could defeat the Desert Apostles all by myself... If I hadn't been so arrogant, then..."

"Moonlight... Please don't say things like that."

"But-"

"I know you better than anyone. You're always too harsh on yourself, so I know that's not true. The Moonlight from this time tries to do everything by herself too. She's always fighting by herself, protecting everyone by herself... And carrying all the pain by herself. Because no matter what, Cure Moonlight understands what it means to be a Precure and she doesn't want anyone else to have to go through it. You're not arrogant, you're just kind. I couldn't have asked for a better partner."

"Cologne..."

"You're still doing that, aren't you? Suffering all by yourself... I can tell." Cologne looks down and for a moment Yuri's Heart Flower is visible. It's almost completely wilted. "You shouldn't be like that."
Yuri fell silent. Though her eyes were still wet with tears, she seemed to have calmed down a lot.

"But I..." She reached over to her neck, to her broken Precure Seed, when the sound of a door opening interrupted her.

"I'm sorry I'm late! I had to help Momoka with her home...work..." The source of the voice stopped when she she saw Yuri and Cologne. Yuri couldn't do much but stare.

It's really the natural reaction for when you're faced with the sight of your past self.

A flash of light stopped the stare-down. Little Yuri blinked, while the older version angrily turned around. "Kaitou!"

"What?" He was pointing a cell phone at the smaller girl.

"Stop that."

"I'm just taking a picture. That's not a crime!"

"That doesn't make it okay! Give me that!"

As Yuri tried to snatch the cell phone away, Cologne floated over to the younger Yuri to talk to her. The video cut off.

Technically the Kamen Riders are from different worlds. But just worlds that were already connected before the community found them... Or something like that, anyway, I'm hardly an expert. It's all a little confusing.

No. [Well, that was blunt.]

Eh? Ehhh? Now I'm even more confused than before! [It was good thing that Kouga was dumb.]

About the first or the second part?

Um... To be honest, it's a little bit of both!

The first part I can understand, as I don't really get it myself. Riders in general seem to be a bit weird, even compared to other transforming heroes.

As for the second part, I meant exactly what I said. I am not a Precure, so to refer to me as one would be incorrect. But I used to be one.

They've got some really unique personalities. It's a little hard to believe that they have the power to save the world.

Ahh... I guess that makes sense. But I didn't know that you could choose to stop being a Precure. I know that there are Saints out there who are old geezers, but they're still fighting right now.

It's even harder to believe anyone thought it was a good idea to give them powers in the first place.

It's not something that usually happens. A Precure normally doesn't stop fighting until their enemy has been defeated or something happens to force them to quit. They don't choose to stop fighting. I didn't, for example.

[That definitely sounded similar to how Saints rolled. Except there was always a third option in-between those two...]

There hasn't been cases with Precures actually dying on the battlefield... Has there? From how things sound, there's always a chance of that happening.

I haven't heard of it happening, but my knowledge is very limited. I've only met a couple of Precure. Only four of them I could have met before I accessed the community and only one of them was a Precure before I was. And she was active fifty years ago.

But the chance very much exists. I myself nearly died in the battle that cost me my powers.

What?! Then she really has to be an old lady now! I can't believe that enemies still existed even back then! It'd be even more amazing if she could still fight like she used to.

Ah... I'm sorry about that. Do you know if there's any way that you can get them back?

She is. In fact, she's the grandmother of one of the Precure now active. She doesn't have her powers anymore, though. It really is an old tradition. I believe Cure Ange, the first Precure, was active four hundred years ago.

It's impossible. I used something called a Precure Seed to transform, but it's broken now.

... Four hundred-- [He would be spitting a drink if he had one right now.] They've been going on for that long?! This Precure thing looks like it's had a long history. There's probably gonna over one hundred or even one thousand of you at this rate.

Even if it's impossible... There has to be a way! [#kougalogic] I know that I'd still keep fighting even if my Cloth Stone broke.

I don't know how many there are. There was a large gap between Kaoruko-san and myself, so there might not be that many after all. But now there are three, so depending on the size of past teams, there may very well have been that many.

There isn't. Usually a Precure Seed will be supplied by a Cure's partner fairy, so that might be able to fix it, but... well...

...It's not my place to fight anymore, anyway.

I think that there's always a place for someone. It might not be right now, but I'm sure that you'll be able to fight alongside the new Precure someday.

[Even Seiya himself had saved him in a few pinches, but they were only briefly.] I haven't met them yet, but I'm sure that they'd welcome you with open arms!

Oh, they would. They have approached me on several occasions to get me to help them already. But that has nothing to do with it.

... [SIGH.] Seriously... What a hassle. I guess the point is that things aren't hopeless as long as they're fighting in your stead.

True enough. They recently gained a third member, so I hope she will be able to help them get stronger. She's more disciplined than the other two.

Probably not, no. I think there's at least eight Precure on the community by now. Possibly even more that I don't know about. And each of them is part of their own team.

Somehow, that doesn't sound like consequence... Do they even come with team names?

I think some do, but I'm not sure. I know there's the Smile Precure, which has Cure Peace as a member. As for the rest, I wouldn't really know.

Oh yeah... Crybaby Yayoi mentioned them! [There's a pause.] Eh... But there's no way that she could be a member.

The identities of the various Precure on the community are their own business, so it's not my place to tell you anything about it.

...I will say that I managed to figure out the identity of Cure Peace during my very first conversation with her. She's not the best at keeping secrets.

Eh...? I'm suddenly a lot more worried for you guys. Can we really trust someone like that to save the world?

About some of them, I have had my doubts. But not about Cure Peace. She's very enthusiastic and tries her best to help, even when it's tough. She might not be the best at keeping her own secret, but in every other way, she is very reliable.

I would trust her with my life.
